#10 - Cudderisback
A couple weeks before Christmas in 2009, Cudi hit us up with a nice little surprise and a message to pass on to the fans. Rapping over the “Ottoman” instrumental by Vampire Weekend, this song has stuck with fans ever since its release. It was never released on any albums so this was voted the #1 non-album track and it kicks off the “best of” list at #10.
“Hello and Happy Holidays to everyone of my fans, hope u guys arnt ragin too much. SIKE! : ) peace and love from your bud, Cud”
#9 - Day 'n' Nite
Kickstarting Cudi’s career in 2008, “Day ‘n’ Nite” was released as a single and then appeared on his “A Kid Named Cudi” mixtape before climbing as high as #3 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 2009. Along with the Crookers remix, it’s become a staple of Cudi’s live sets and an obvious fan favorite. It’s a classic Dot Da Genius produced Cudi track easily deserving of being in the Top 10 of his career. Surprisingly, the fans never voted this in the top 5 on “Man on the Moon” and “A Kid Named Cudi” but it looks like a change of heat brings it in at #9 on this list.
#8 - Up Up & Away
Closing out Man on the Moon: The End of Day, Up Up & Away is the last song on the album and in the final scene “A New Beginning”. After taking us into his world of dreams and nightmares Cudi “awakens” with the most upbeat and uplifting song on the album. This has quietly turned into a fan favorite over the years giving it underdog status in this top 10 list at #8.
#7 - Mojo So Dope
Recorded in Hawaii and produced by Emile, “Mojo So Dope” is one of only two songs from Cudi’s sophomore effort to crack the Top 10. With a fresh sample and killer raps (especially the second verse) “Mojo So Dope” is one of Cudi’s best “pure hip-hop” tracks to date. We live this shit.
#6 - Man On The Moon
At the start of the song Cudi says “I never gave a fuck what ni**as thought about me”, words he still continues to live by to this day. 4 years later, “Man on the Moon” is still a stand out track and one that inspired much of Cudi’s career going forward while helpin propel him into spotlight with the release of “A Kid Named Cudi”.
“Man on the Moon” is only one of three songs from “A Kid Named Cudi” to appear as bonus tracks on his debut album “Man on the Moon: The End of Day”.
#5 - Cudi Zone
The raps, energy, chorus and some fantastic production from Emile sets “Cudi Zone” apart from the rest. This is one of the oldest recordings from Cudi’s debut album as it was put together in early 2009 with Cudi taking almost 6 months to record his second verse on the song.
If you’ve seen Kid Cudi perform live, you know first hand the energy this song brings during the “Mucho Mega Mix”.
#4 - The Prayer
Three albums later and some of Cudi’s oldest work still continues to be a fan favorite. Released in 2008 on “A Kid Named Cudi, The Prayer’s smooth vibe and simple but meaningful lyrics put this in the #4 spot and only 200 votes behind the #3 selection.
“This song is about someone who is fed up with reality, who looks for thrills and excitement by any means. It’s just kind of how I was feeling at that point. I was just so angry.”
#2 - Pursuit of Happiness
“Man on the Moon: The End of Day” is Kid Cudi’s best album as it spawns two of his best songs ever for a total of 5 in the top 10. Produced by Ratatat, with supporting vocals from MGMT, “Pursuit of Happiness” is the stand out from this album and easily one of the best songs Cudi has ever recorded.
The DatNewCudi.com staff would have given Pursuit the crown at #1, but the fans thought differently….
#1 - Soundtrack 2 My Life
“Soundtrack 2 My Life” edges out “Pursuit of happiness” by only 4% so this likely could have gone either way. This is the song that fans have clearly related with the most so it’s no surprise it was voted the #1 Kid Cudi song of all time. Soundtrack 2 My Life is a defining part of Cudi’s debut album “Man on the Moon: The End of Day” with it’s infectious chorus and stand out verses.
