Just as quickly as Amazon put the album up for pre-order, they seem to have let the new release date slip. Cruel Summer was set to release on September 4th according to Def Jam but that date is looking very unlikely at this point.
Earlier this week we posted pre-order information for the album with the release dates on Amazon set to the announced September 4 date. The album currently has 5 listings on Amazon that includes a regular edition and deluxe edition (both in clean and explicit) along with a Vinyl.
If Amazon’s track history is any indication, the album has been pushed back. Each listing has been moved from September 4 all the way to September 18, a full two week delay. Amazon stores worldwide (Japan, Germany) have also changed dates to coincide with the new release schedule.
On top of that, G.O.O.D. Music recording artist Malik Yusef has tweeted confirmation that the album has been moved back. You can view his tweets in the gallery above.
One thing to note, the deadline to be eligible for the 2013 Grammy Awards is September 30, 2012. I would expect the entire team to want the album to be eligible for the upcoming Grammy’s so the latest this could be released is September 25 (final Tuesday of the month).
There is currently no official word from Def Jam if September 18 is the new date but all signs point to that being the case.
